The Clyde Valley Health and Social Care collaborative was established in February 2010, following the recommendations made by Sir John Arbuthnott within the Clyde Valley Review, for enhanced joint working arrangements between local health and social care services. The collaborative is sponsored by David Martin, Chief Executive of Renfrewshire Council and lead by Peter Macleod, Director of Social Work. The group meets monthly and is comprised of Directors or Chief Social Work Officers from all local authority social work services, senior leaders from the 2 health boards, as well as representatives from the Joint Improvement Team and Scotland Excel.
The collaborative operates on the basis that partners will seek opportunities to work together to address key areas of demographic or financial pressure which may exist at a local level. The focus is on collaboration with a clear mandate to investigate and take forward potential opportunities for local authorities and health boards to develop and commission services on a joint basis.
An outline business case was developed during 2010 which identified a number of initial areas to be investigated further for collaborative opportunities. These include:
- Child care services (linked to the work of the Regional Child Care Commissioning Pathfinder which is lead by Renfrewshire Council and sponsored by the Scottish Government);
- Adult care services;
- Shared training and development opportunities; and
- Telecare and telehealth initiatives.
- Collaboration around training and development including a behaviour management SVQ under development with SQA, and the development of e-learning protection modules which have been developed jointly.
- Successful child protection and adult protection TV campaigns, which have been lead by collaborative members, and have involved a number of other local authorities across Scotland.
