Road and lighting faults

Responsibilities for the repair of road and street lighting faults are shared between the council and Amey Highways. Details of each organisation's responsibilities are explained below.

To report road defects such as potholes or faulty street lights, you can telephone us or use our online fault reporting form with details of the location of the fault, and in the case of street lights, the road name and the reference number on the side of the lighting column.

Use the following link if you wish to make an insurance claim because you have suffered injury or damage to your vehicle due to negligence on the part of the council.

Renfrewshire Council's area of responsibility

The council is responsible for maintaining and repairing all road and street lighting within Renfrewshire with the exception of trunk roads or motorways.

Amey Highway's area of responsibility

Amey Highway's are responsible for trunk roads and motorways in the Renfrewshire area. Amey Highways, a private contractor employed by Transport Scotland. Routes maintained by Amey are the M8, M898, the A898, (Erskine Bridge), the A737 and the A8 from M8 junction 31 West Ferry to the Inverclyde boundary.
