You need permission from the council to place or keep objects like skips and scaffolding on, under or over a road or footway. By law, you also need permission to:
- connect to a public road,
- drive animals along or over a road,
- discharge water or mud onto a road, and
- many other road related operations.
This table shows the activities that you need the council's permission for. The middle column shows whether the law applies to public and/or private roads.

Conditions that apply to all TOR1 Applications:
In addition to these activities, any hauliers transporting their vehicle in or around Renfrewshire must notify the council of their intended vehicle movement.
