Renfrewshire has been prone to flooding. Major flooding has taken place in Paisley, Johnstone and Houston in the recent past and the north of Renfrew has been subject to regular flooding from the River Clyde. In recent years we have also experienced higher intensity rain storms leading to an increase of flooding in this council's area.
The council has duties to prevent flooding and to work with the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) and Scottish Water to try to prevent flooding occurring. However it must be stressed that the main responsibility for protecting and insuring property against flood damage lies with property owners.
The flooding information on this website covers:
- advice on flood emergencies
- the responsibilities of the council
- what the council and others are doing to reduce flood problems
- websites with information about flooding
- Scrutiny of Flooding in Renfrewshire
- drainage assessment
- Carts flood liaison and advice group
