The Building standards service makes sure that all building works comply with the building regulations. This involves the processing of building warrant applications, the inspection of building works and the acceptance or rejection of completion certificates.
Other matters that are dealt with by the Building Standards service include providing a service to enable the completion of property sales in respect of work that has been carried out where no information or documents exist to show that adequate requirements were met in relation to various works.
The Building Standards section also play a major role in public safety with regards to buildings that have become dangerous or defective for a variety of reasons from extreme weather conditions, fire damage, or deterioration of the fabric of the building through age or lack of proper maintenance measures. Again in association with public safety building standards contribute to the licensing process within Renfrewshire on a consultancy basis by reporting on proposal for various licensing applications prior to them opening to the public.
