Applications for planning permission
Home > Services > Environment and Planning > Planning > Applications for Planning Permission
Planning permission is often needed for the development of land and buildings.
'Development' includes alterations and extensions to existing buildings, erection of new buildings, and changing the use of buildings or land.
The development management section deals with all enquiries and applications for planning permission. The section also deals with applications for listed building consent and other types of permission, for example, the display of advertisements and the use of hazardous substances.
Although fees are normally payable to the council when a planning application is made, the development management section also provides pre-application advice free of charge.
If you are concerned about development which has taken place without planning permission and would like the council to investigate it, contact the development management enforcement team. Please note that only written enquiries and complaints will be dealt with, including faxes or emails, although you are welcome to phone for advice. See the contact details below.
