Repair and improvement grants for homeowners
Home > Services > Housing > Private Housing > Grants for Homeowners
Our Private Sector section provides financial assistance to private home owners to upgrade and maintain their properties. We provide grant support for repairs, improvements, disabled adaptations and tenement refurbishment. As well as this we provide funding to support Care and Repair Renfrewshire who provide assistance for elderly and disabled homeowners.
What are grants given for?
Repairs
- Care and Repair Renfrewshire can help elderly and disabled home owners to carry out essential repairs. For further information, contact the Care and Repair website or phone: 0141 812 4111
Improvements
- Provision of standard amenities to a house for the first time, i.e. where a house lacks either bathroom or kitchen facilities, or works to make sure that a property has a wholesome drinking water supply.
- Lead Pipe replacement; grant at a minimum 50% of the eligible costs of replacing lead water supply pipes to private homes.
Disabled adaptations
- Improvements/alterations/adaptations to the home of a disabled person to meet their requirements. These are referred to us through an Occupational Therapist.
Refurbishment of tenement buildings
- We can also provide grant assistance towards major refurbishment of tenement buildings. Due to the lack of resources, however, we are only able to assist with the refurbishment of a few tenements each year. These works are usually coordinated by an agent for the owners, or the Council will work in partnership with local housing associations.
How much will I get?
If you apply for a grant, you will be asked to provide us with information on your financial resources. You may receive from 0% to 100% grant based on your income. However, for some categories of work you will receive a grant for at least 50% no matter what your income. These are:
- installation of standard amenities;
- bringing the house up to the tolerable standard;
- adaptations to meet the needs of a disabled occupant;
- works required following the service of a statutory repairs notice, improvement order or Housing Action Area resolution; and
- works required to improve or repair communal or shared parts of a building.
