Council repairs and improvement grants

Repairs grants: are usually made at our discretion. However, if we think that a house is in a serious state of disrepair, or is liable to fall into serious disrepair, we can serve a notice on the property requiring the problems to be put right.
Improvement grants: are mandatory where the property is in an area the Council has declared to be a Housing Action Area (HAA) for improvement, where the Council has served an improvement order, or where a property lacks any of the standard amenities, e.g. bath or shower, wc, wash hand basin, sink and hot and cold water supply.
Your contribution: to make sure that grants are given to the people who are least able to afford work on their house themselves, an assessment is made to calculate how much should be contributed by all the people who should help maintain the house.
Grants for listed buildings: the council offers Heritage Fund grants for the repair and restoration of listed buildings. The grants are to help meet the extra costs involved in using traditional methods and materials.
