Grey bins
We empty household grey bins every two weeks.
On collection day, put your bin out on the pavement where it's easy for the binmen to get to it. Leave the bin with the handles facing the roadway but try to keep the pavement clear for pedestrians. Please do this the night before collection or as early as possible on collection day. In Renfrewshire, we start emptying bins at 7.00 am, so if you don't have your bin out by then, you could miss the lorry.
- Don't overfill your bin and keep the lid closed.
- Don't stack up other rubbish alongside or on top of it. We'll only empty the bin, so if you have extra rubbish keep it till next week, arrange a special uplift, or use one of our recycling facilities.
- Return the bin to your property as soon as possible after we empty it.
- Report any damaged bins to us. The contact number is 0141 842 4448.
- Don't put heavy material in the bin such as concrete.
- Keep your bin clean.

Black sack collection
We use black sacks in some areas where the wheeled bin system isn't suitable. We pick up the sacks from the kerb of the pavement in the same way as the wheeled bin emptying. We collect sacks from back doors of some properties in town centres and some Erskine residents have to leave their sacks at collection points.
Communal bin collection for flats and maisonettes
Some houses, such as flats and maisonettes aren't suitable for individual wheeled bins so we supply communal bins. These are put in a central place for all the residents to use.
Extra wheeled bins
Every Renfrewshire household has one grey wheeled bin. We do provide extra bins to residents with large families or with some medical conditions. If you need an extra bin, phone us on 0141 842 4448 and we'll contact you and arrange a visit to discuss your needs.
You can also buy replacement wheeled bins in various sizes to suit your needs. This table shows sizes and costs for 2011/2013.
| Capacity (litres) | Approx number of sacks | Price |
| 140 | 2 | £17.20 |
| 240 | 4 | £20.50 |
| 360 | 6 | £51.25 |
