Contaminated land
What is contaminated land?

It is land which has been polluted by previous industrial and waste disposal activities and which poses unacceptable risks to human health or the wider environment in its current use.

How is it dealt with in Renfrewshire?

The Council's environmental protection division inspects all Renfrewshire land and identifies any contaminated areas. They carry out a range of tasks: Renfrewshire Council completed a contaminated land strategy for Renfrewshire in September 2001. Then Scottish Executive provided guidance on which the strategy is based. You can download the Contaminated Land Strategy below. All local libraries throughout Renfrewshire hold copies of the strategy. Adobe Acrobat Reader is needed to view this document.
