Home > Services > Environment and Planning > Environmental Protection > Animal Warden Service
The animal warden service is run by Renfrewshire Council. The main duties of the wardens are :
- to uplift stray dogs and take them to the kennels where they are kept for seven days, allowing time for the owner to collect their dog. The dogs are checked for ID or microchip and their owners contacted. The wardens also offer an ID microchipping service for dog owners.
- to respond to complaints of dog nuisance caused by fouling and strays.
- to support other officers with the inspection of animal boarding establishments, horse riding premises and pet shops.
- to patrol Renfrewshire on a regular basis and promote responsible dog ownership to raise public awareness through talks to groups and schoolchildren.
Dog waste bins are provided in various locations throughout Renfrewshire to let dog owners dispose of dog waste in a hygienic manner. Free 'Poop Scoop' bags are available from any of our customer service points.
