The history of the Paisley library dates back to 1871.

The library is attached to Paisley museum where there is a side door providing disabled access from 9:00am until 4.15pm, except on a Saturday when the side door is opened at 10:00am. Please phone in advance for disabled parking.
There are specialist collections with unique resources, as well as the usual library services:
- lending library - books, cds and dvds for loan
- learning centre - free access to computers, the internet and online learning packages
- reference library - books, directories, maps, e-resources and an information enquiry service
- local studies library - an extensive collection of local history and family history materials
