Why we want Renfrewshire to be active
Drop into any Renfrewshire library or leisure facility now to find out more about how you can be more active.
It's all part of our vision to encourage people in Renfrewshire to become more active. The Active Renfrewshire partnership aims to provide information and opportunities to people that will make it easier to lead a healthier lifestyle, take part in sport and get involved with the community. The key Active Renfrewshire partners include the Council's Youth and Sport Services, Renfrewshire Leisure, Clyde Muirshiel, Renfrewshire Sports Network, Engage Renfrewshire, Community Health Partnership, Scottish Football Association and Sport Scotland.
Visit the Active Renfrewshire website for more information about opportunities to keep active and healthy.
Physical activity is any movement of the body which uses energy. Being physically active doesn't have to mean long "sweat sessions" in the gym or running for miles, it can be walking the dog, playing with the children or even doing the housework .
Moderate intensity physical activity
This can be described as activity which raises your heart rate enough to make you feel warm and slightly out of breath. At this intensity you should still be able to talk without being too breathless.

By being regularly physically active you can help improve your health and your environment. Small changes to your daily routine can make big differences. By doing 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity at least 5 days of the week you can feel fitter, healthier and happier.
Keeping active can help to control weight and maintain healthy bones, muscles and joints. Feeling fitter, healthier and keeping active can also help reduce blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Having a healthy body and mind will also make you feel good about yourself and increase your confidence. It can improve your concentration, reduce feelings of stress, anxiety and even depression.

By being physically active you also help the environment. Choose more active forms of transport on short journeys, such as walking or cycling and you will contribute to a cleaner safer environment.
