Renfrewshire Council's community learning and development service aims to strengthen communities by enhancing people's
- knowledge
- skills
- confidence
- organisational capacity, and
- resources.
The service's work is centred on the guidance document "Working and Learning together to build stronger communities" issued by the Scottish Government in January 2004. This long-term framework brings together the familiar themes of community education and community development, acknowledging the key roles they play in revitalising lifelong learning and placing it at the heart of the community planning process.
Community learning and development services are broken into three sections:
- youth services we provide a range of clubs, groups and activities to support the personal, social and educational abilities of young people.
- adult services we support people to raise their skills in literacy, numeracy and information communications technology and other learning related to work and life.
- community capacity we encourage individuals, groups and communities to develop the organisational skills they need to tackle issues of concern in the community. We also provide the halls and school letting service for voluntary and community organisations in Renfrewshire
