What is Bookbug?
Bookbug is a national programme encouraging all parents and carers to enjoy books with their children from as early an age as possible. We want every child in the UK to develop a lifelong love of books.
Find a Bookbug Session to suit you.
Research shows that:
- babies and toddlers who love books begin reading sooner and have a better chance at school
- most of a child's language comes from the adults around them
- enjoying books with babies and toddlers increases language skills, and
- books help children to understand their world.
Bookbug gives the gift of free books to children periodically from 0 - 5 years, and provides guidance materials for parents and carers. They also aim to foster a love of books through a range of fun activities including Bookbug Library Challenge and Bookbug Sessions.
How do I get my child involved?
How do I get my child involved?
- Ask your Health Visitor about your baby's Bookbug Pack
- Bring your baby or toddler along to our free Bookbug Sessions. It's a great opportunity to sign up for baby's first library card and remember it's free to join the library.
