BBC Absolute Beginners Guide to Using a Computer
- is a quick course with a basic introduction to computing
- teaches mouse skills and explains how different bits of a computer work
Computer Tutor:
- is a BBC interactive course for complete beginners
- teaches you to use a mouse, develop your keyboard skills and understand the computer screen
- is a fun way to get lots of practice as you take part in a series of games
BBC Webwise:
- teaches you all about the Internet, how to get online, surf the net and send email
- is a course suitable for complete beginners and more experienced users
- lets you test your knowledge as you go along using interactive activities
GCF Global Learning
- is a free online computer training approved by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET)
Dance Mat Typing
- is a BBC schools website which provides a fun way to learn touch typing. The website is designed for 7 - 11 years but don't let this put you off as the clear instructions and exercises will get your typing skills off to a flying start
Once you have grasped the basics - you can improve your skills further and gain a qualification with:
- ECDL (European Computing Driving Licence) - an internationally recognised course giving a good working knowledge of computers and the internet
- Internet Safety - learn how to keep yourself, your children and your computer safe online and get yourself a recognised qualification from the SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority)
