The West of Scotland Transport Partnership Joint Committee (WESTRANS) was disbanded on 31 March 2006. On 1 April 2006, the functions undertaken by WESTRANS were transferred to the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport which was set up by the Scottish Ministers to develop a regional transport strategy. The partnership consists of representatives from Argyll and Bute; East Ayrshire; East Renfrewshire; East Dunbartonshire; Glasgow; Inverclyde; North Ayrshire; North Lanarkshire; Renfrewshire; South Ayrshire; South Lanarkshire and West Dunbartonshire councils. In addition, there are a number of non-councillor members appointed by the Scottish Ministers.
