Scottish licensing law requires that all councils set up a licensing forum for their area.

Forums must be made up of between five and twenty members, with the actual number of members decided by each council. Renfrewshire Council has agreed that their licensing forum will have 18 members.

The members of the Renfrewshire Licensing Forum are:

• Representative of Strathclyde Police
• Representative of Strathclyde Fire and Rescue
• Representative of the Community Health Partnership
• Gordon Lethorn - representing local residents
• Bill Duncan - representing local residents
• Hugh Cameron - representing local residents
• Margaret Dymond - representing local residents
• Kris Sinclair - representing young people
• Ian McMahon - licence holder
• Alyson Finnigan - licence holder
• David Mitchell - licence holder
• Gordon Neil - licence holder
• John Laurenson - Education and Leisure, Renfrewshire Council
• Peter Macleod - Director of Social Work, Renfrewshire Council
• Martin Brier - licensing standards officer, Renfrewshire Council

There are currently vacancies on the forum for two representatives of young people and a local resident representative.

The role of the forum is to keep the operation of the licensing system in Renfrewshire under review and to give advice and recommendations to the licensing board. This does not include reviewing, offering advice or making recommendations in relation to any particular application or case before the board.

The licensing board has the duty to 'have regard' to the forum's views and must offer reasons where it takes decisions against the advice of the forum. Find out more about the Renfrewshire licensing board.
