Renfrewshire is divided into 26 community council areas. Residents in 22 of these areas have established a community council of their own to represent the views of residents to the Council and other public agencies.
The Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils (the Scheme) published in December 2010, details the boundaries for each community council area, sets out their operational rules and the amount of financial support provided to meet basic running costs. In compliance with the Scheme, each active community council has adopted both a constitution stating what it will do and a set of standing orders detailing how meetings are to be conducted.
Community councils express the views and concerns of local people within their area on a wide range of issues. We'd encourage all residents to become involved in their local community council.
Select from the links below for more information about active local community councils in Renfrewshire and to access individual community council websites where these have been set up. Please note: Renfrewshire Council is not responsible for the content of these independent websites.
There are no active community councils in the undernoted four areas. If this is your local area and you are interested in setting up a community council - please contact 0141 840 3147 or email community-council.cs@renfrewshire.gov.uk for more information:-

You can view boundary maps showing the areas covered by each community council.
Elections are held every four years to appoint members to community councils with the next one due in 2015. Between one four-yearly election and the next, community councils can hold interim elections to fill vacancies and will display posters locally to let you know about it. Community councils can also co-opt residents who show an interest in becoming a member. Likewise, associate members, who can provide specialist knowledge or experience, can be appointed.
Each community council receives an annual allowance of £500 + 3p per head of population to help meet basic running costs and we also organise and fund meetings of the Renfrewshire Community Council Forum - where community councils can gather to discuss and resolve common issues.
