External Audit

Around 200 public bodies in Scotland spend over £20 billion of public money each year. Renfrewshire Council, the health board and other local public bodies in Renfrewshire have to show the Auditor General and the Accounts Commission for Scotland that public money is being spent properly.
Audit Scotland is the agency which provides the Auditor General and the Accounts Commission with the information they need to carry out their duties. They do this by carrying out audits - that is, detailed and systematic investigations - of various aspects of how public bodies work. Renfrewshire Council is one of the public bodies audited by Audit Scotland. The audits check how Renfrewshire:
- manage their finances to the highest standards
- achieve the best possible value for money
