Renfrewshire Council is committed to ensuring that all employees, customers and partners are treated fairly and with respect at all times.
We are committed to promoting equality and tackling discrimination through the way services are planned, delivered and purchased.
The council promotes and encourages a culture whereby equality of opportunity exists for everyone regardless of race, gender, disability, age, religion or belief or sexual orientation.
We are positively and actively committed to ensuring that:
- employees are educated on equality
- policies, procedures and practices support the council's equality responsibilities
- services provided are relevant to the needs of the diverse community
- the council's workforce represents the communities we service
- equality is integrated throughout the Council
- a safe and inclusive environment is provided which is free from any form of bullying, harassment, discrimination or victimisation
- unacceptable behaviour will be challenged, and
- equality practices in the Council are measured regularly and are compliant.
We work closely with the Equality and Human Right Commission in Scotland which has a statutory remit to promote and monitor human rights; and to protect, enforce and promote equality across the nine 'protected' grounds - age, disability, gender reassignment, marital status and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex and sexual orientation.
Our useful documents and publications section contains information and advice about various aspects of equality from a variety of different agencies.

It is also important for people coming to live in Renfrewshire to have a basic understanding of local services and information on how to access them.
Together with community planning partners, we have created an information pack for new migrants from Poland, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania and Bulgaria.
