Understanding your rights and responsibilities at work can be confusing, but there are various sources of information that can help you. Find out more about:
- your entitlements to holidays, pay and working hours
- equal opportunities in the workplace
- working parents' rights, and
- Renfrewshire Council's employment policies.

- bank holidays and your entitlement to time off work or extra pay on these days,
- hours of work, what the legal working time limits are and what breaks you're entitled to, and
- the national minimum wage.
The Citizens Advice website also provides useful advice about employment rights.

Equal opportunities
Everyone has the right to be treated fairly in the workplace. Renfrewshire Council is committed to providing equal opportunities for all job applicants and employees. You can read our full equal opportunities policy here.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission website also has lots of useful information about tacking discrimination. Find out more about:
- Age equality, how age discrimination can affect you if you are considered to be too old or too young, and what you can do to tackle it.
- Race equality, your legal rights and what to do if you're being discriminated against because of your race, colour, nationality or ethnicity.
- Disability equality, the law about disability discrimination and what measures employers must take to make adjustments for you if you have a physical or mental impairment.

- Religion and belief equality and your rights to practice your religion without fear of discrimination.

Working parents
Balancing work and childcare can be challenging. However, if you have a child under the age of 16 or a disabled child under 18, you have a right to request flexible working and your employer must consider your request seriously.
