Responsibility for policing Glasgow Airport falls to officers of Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Division. With around eight million passengers passing through the airport’s terminals each year, it is Scotland’s busiest airport and presents the Division with unique policing challenges.
This is just one aspect of policing a diverse area, which covers some 165 square miles and a population of 264,500 people. In addition, the Division covers Paisley, Scotland’s largest town with 80,000 inhabitants, and towns such as Johnstone, Renfrew, Greenock, Port Glasgow and Gourock - all covered by CCTV surveillance systems for a marked reduction in crime. Paisley and Greenock town centres also benefit from a Radio Link System, linking night-clubs and retail outlets to the CCTV operators at local police offices. The Division covers Paisley University, as well as a bustling marina at Inverkip, plus Lochwinnoch Country Park. Geographical boundaries are shared with Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Councils.
Chief Superintendent Johnny Gwynne has responsibility for Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Division’s policing strategy. He is based at divisional headquarters in Paisley.
