Building Better Communities

Council Leader Brian Lawson, with representatives of Renfrewshire Council, Renfrewshire Leisure Ltd and BAM Construction
Communities across Renfrewshire are set to benefit from a £103million investment in schools, sports, social care and community facilities.

Renfrewshire Council's investment in the ambitious Building Better Communities (BBC) programme has recently been increased from £92million to £103million.

Since the programme was approved in June 2009, additional funding has been allocated for work on Paisley Town Hall, and a contribution to the development of Johnstone Town Hall and civic hub.

Along with the £149million council housing improvement programme, that sees over a quarter of a billion pounds being invested in Renfrewshire communities.

The investment is designed to drive forward the regeneration of our town centres, encourage healthy lifestyles, increase participation in sport and leisure activities and improve services for adults with learning disabilities.

Councillor Brian Lawson, Leader of Renfrewshire Council, said of the BBC programme: "By broadening access, we're giving more options for leisure time and access to high quality facilities."

"This investment will drive forward the regeneration of our town centres, develop healthy lifestyles and increase participation in sport and leisure activities.

"This is the biggest investment programme Renfrewshire's leisure facilities have ever seen."

"Before we finalised our proposals, the Council and Renfrewshire Leisure Limited (RLL), who operate the sports facilities, carried out a review to make sure that we would take forward investment in a way which maximises the benefit to the community. Not only are we investing major funding, we've deliberately taken the opportunity to integrate community, education and sporting facilities and services."
