The council is responsible for the licensing of taxis, private hire cars, taxi drivers and private hire drivers.

What is the difference between a taxi and private hire car?

A taxi can be hailed in the street or can be pre-booked. A private hire car must be pre-booked in advance through a private hire car company.

What is the difference between a taxi driver and a private hire driver?

A taxi driver's licence allows you to drive both taxis and private hire cars. A private hire driver's licence allows you to drive only private hire cars.
