Criteria for priority need
Home > Services > Housing > Housing Options Guide > Housing for homeless people
The following households have a priority need for accommodation:
- Pregnant women, including anyone who normally lives with them or might be reasonably expected to live with them. This is regardless of the stage of the pregnancy or the age of the applicant.
- Applicants who have dependent* children living with them or who might reasonably be expected to live with them.
- Young people aged between 16 and 25 years. It is Renfrewshire Council's policy to accept all young people in this age group as being in priority need, including young people who have been 'looked after' by the local authority.
- A person who is homeless or threatened with homelessness because of an emergency such as flood, fire or other disaster.
- Households who are at risk of violence or harassment because of their religion, sexuality, race, colour or ethnic or national origin.
- Households at risk of domestic abuse. This is the case in which an applicant runs the risk of abuse from someone they would reasonably be expected to live with, or someone they used to live with.
- Households who are vulnerable due to:
- old age,
- mental health problems,
- a learning disability,
- a physical disability,
- chronic health problems,
- having had a miscarriage or abortion,
- having just left hospital, prison or the armed forces, or
- another special reason.
* dependent children are children who are aged 15 or under, and those aged 18 or under who are either in or about to begin full time education or training or are unable to support themselves for any other reason.
