When we carry out improvements to Council housing, our officers are responsible for all aspects of these contracts - from the initial design stage, right through to final contract completion. We appoint the contractors who carry out this work and monitor their performance on site.
Before the works starts
Within 10 working days of awarding a contract, we will write to affected tenants and owners to let them know:
- the nature and extent of the work;
- the contractor’s name;
- when the work will be carried out; and
- the name and phone number of the employee to contact for more information, or about any problems that may arise
We will make sure that:
- work is carried out safely;
- the contractor leaves the site clean and tidy at the end of each working day;
- the contractor stores all equipment and materials safely and securely;
- workmen are polite and helpful, take every reasonable step to avoid damaging your property, and respect the security of your home;
- scaffolding is put up no more than five working days before work starts (health and safety requirements apply), and is dismantled and removed from the site within five working days of the work being finished;
- construction materials and equipment are removed from the site within two working days of the end of the contract; and
- initial restoration work to areas of ground used during the work is finished within 10 working days of the end of the contract
