Provost at Light Switch on Paisley 2018

Celebrating the festive season

We're well and truly in to the festive season and I had a great time last weekend at the Paisley Christmas Lights Switch On where I was delighted to have 11-year-old Skye's help to turn on the lights.

Thousands of you came out to enjoy the day and switch the lights on in style and the fun is set to continue across Renfrewshire.

Renfrew will switch on their new Christmas lights tomorrow, and Johnstone will hold their event the following weekend (Saturday 1 December).

There'll be fun family activities from noon tomorrow in Renfrew and Santa will be waiting to hear what you've got on your Christmas list this year.

I can't wait to see what the local performers have got in store for us on the main stage from 3pm.

At 5pm I'll be switching on the lights with nine-year-old Ava from St Anne's Primary. I loved her entry to my Christmas card competition.

There's no rest for Santa as he'll stop by Houston Square next Saturday to find out what all the boys and girls of Johnstone are looking for this Christmas before he heads off to the North Pole to get ready for all his deliveries.

There'll be Christmas crafts and face painting to keep the littlest elves entertained, and don't forget to visit the St Vincent's Hospice market before the lights come on at 5pm.

Jonathon, aged nine, from St Anthony's Primary was Johnstone's winner in the Christmas card competition and I'm glad to have him with me to push the button and light up the town.

It'll be two excellent days of festive cheer and I hope to see you at one - or maybe both!
