Renfrewshire Council

Congratulations!

Part of my role as Provost of Renfrewshire is to recognise the great achievements by local people, and this week I attended a lunch for Jean Bett who was awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for Services to Education and Community Drama in Renfrewshire and West Dunbartonshire.

Jean Bett BEM Over the years, Jean has inspired many young people to make more of their lives through drama.

As a teacher in both Paisley and Alexandria, she regularly gave her free time to run weekly entertainment groups and put on shows, working with children from all backgrounds and of all abilities, providing much needed self-confidence and valuable life skills.

Jean has directed and choreographed school and community performances for over 50 years, and established the Trinity Theatre Group, previously known as St John's Dramatic Club, who have performed to thousands of people.

I was honoured to join Jean as she was awarded her BEM and I was inspired by the work she has carried out in our community over the years.

I'm sure you will all join me in wishing Jean congratulations.
