Corporate Parenting team SSS award

Children's Services team shortlisted for top award

The Council's Corporate Parenting team have been shortlisted for a Scottish Social Services award.

It's now a nail-biting few hours till they find out if they have won the award for "Excellence in Children's Services", which also celebrates the Year of Young People 2018.

The team support care-experienced children and young people to have the same level of care that other children and young people have.

They also help children and young people have a voice through the Champions Board. Karen Nowland, who works in Children's Services, is delighted the team have been shortlisted. She said: "We support children and young people who are in care to have their voice heard by decision-makers. That means their views influence policy and our practice."

The Scottish Social Service team said that the Champions Board enables engagement between care-experienced children and young people and senior leaders in the Council and that by involving young people in decision-making they are delivering improvements to practice and young people's outcomes.
