British Pipe Band Championships return to Paisley

Next Saturday 19 May we are once again welcoming the British Pipe Band Championships to Paisley and I'd love you all to join me at the St James' Playing Fields for a memorable day of traditional music.

Over 125 bands will compete for awards throughout the day and there are plenty of activities for all ages to get involved in, including a Kids Zone and a Food and Drink Village.

The event is free and there are free shuttle buses running to the event from Paisley Gilmour Street Station, the Paisley 2021 stadium and West College Scotland.

This is the third time Paisley has hosted the championships and if you haven't been before, come and see for yourself what a great day out it is - you won't be disappointed.

Last year I joined Chieftain Corrine Hutton - founder of the Finding Your Feet charity - for the prize-giving in one of my first official engagements as Provost of Renfrewshire and I am honoured to have been asked to be the event Chieftain for 2018.

I can't wait to see what the competition holds this year. The day closes with a marchpast of all the pipers and drummers in attendance and it promises to be a spectacular finish.

Hope to see you there!
