Come along and remember those lost to suicide

I can hardly believe that another year has passed and the memorial service for those lost to suicide takes place once again at Renfrewshire House on Thursday 25 January.  It is a subject that is still not openly talked about but one which we must keep trying to raise awareness of.

The memorial tree which displays messages from loved ones all year round has become a poignant symbol for families to visit to remember those who they have lost.

I'm looking forward to meeting the affected families and paying tribute to their sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, friends and anyone who has been affected by suicide.

It is important that we provide the opportunity for people to come together, meet others who have faced the same experiences and allow them to pay their respects.

It also allows us to raise awareness of the harrowing consequences of suicide and to encourage those affected by serious mental health issues to talk about the difficulties they are going through.

All are welcome to come along to the Marriage Suite at 3:15pm to pick up a purple heart on which they can write a message of remembrance, if they wish to do so.

A short service will then take place inside before all are invited to walk down to the tree and place their message onto the tree.

Everyone is welcome to Paisley Abbey following the ceremony for tea and coffee and the opportunity to chat to other families and members of the Choose Life Team.

I'm pleased we can once again offer this chance for those who lost a loved one to suicide to pay their respects and I'd encourage anyone who feels this would benefit them to come along.
