Renfrew Christmas Lights

Join the festive fun around Renfrewshire

What a fantastic time I had with the many thousands of people who came out to enjoy Paisley's Christmas Lights Switch-On last weekend - and the festive fun is set to continue across Renfrewshire.

Renfrew is getting ready for a full-day extravaganza before switching on its Christmas lights on Saturday and Johnstone will bring in the festive period by lighting up the following weekend (Saturday 2 December).

Saturday's fun begins at noon with Renfrew Town Hall hosting Big Top children's craft workshops and activities before the Renfrew Burgh Band thrill the crowds at 3pm.

I can't wait to see the magical entertainment on the live outdoor stage, with Pulse FM, Paisley's Got Talent winner Hollie Robinson and a number of local choirs and performers all on hand to share some Christmas cheer.

It will be a real privilege to switch on the lights with nine-year-old Erin Murray, from Arkleston Primary School, whose fabulous design was the winning Christmas card entry from Renfrew.

Join us at 5pm for the big switch-on before a stunning firework display decorates the skies above Renfrew.

Santa will then be stopping by Johnstone next Saturday before heading home to get ready for his big deliveries on Christmas Eve.

You'll find him in his grotto in Houston Square among the host of children's entertainment and family fun taking place across Johnstone Town Centre.

Make sure you visit the fantastic St Vincent's Hospice Christmas Market in Johnstone Town Hall before gathering with your friends and family to watch the lights come on at 5pm.

St Anthony's Primary School pupil Tillie Shearon, 8, was Johnstone's winner in the Christmas card competition and I'm excited to be joining her to press the button and light up the town.

I hope to see you at one - or maybe both - of these wonderful events across Renfrewshire.
