Christmas Lights 2016

Could your little one be the Provost's little helper?

Switching on the Christmas lights in Johnstone, Paisley and Renfrew always brings a fantastic crowd to our town centres and it could be your child that is the main attraction this year!

We're hosting a competition which asks children of primary school age to design a Christmas card and submit your best entry to me via your local library or through your primary school.

Not to give too much away but I'm a big fan of traditional cards, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what your idea of a traditional Christmas card should look like.

We'll pick three winners, one for each switch-on, who'll get to join me in pressing the button to illuminate the town centre for the Christmas months.

Turning on the Christmas lights is an exciting time and I'll be just as nervous as the winners as it'll be my first time up on that stage too.

My role as Provost takes me to a variety of places across Renfrewshire but this is certainly one set of events I can't wait to take part in.

Thousands of people always turn out to see the big moment and I'm excited to see the town centre's alight with colour once again this year.

So get your paper and pens out and start creating your masterpiece, it's going to be a difficult task, but I'm looking forward to picking the winners!
