Memorial rugby tournament at Park Mains High School

Pupils pay tribute to Park Mains pupil with memorial rugby tournament

Renfrewshire pupils paid tribute to Park Mains pupil Owen MacDonald by taking part in a memorial rugby tournament.

S4-S6 pupils from Park Mains, Castlehead and Johnstone high schools played a round robin tournament of eight-minute games on the pitch at Park Mains High School in Erskine.

Bishopton Rugby Football Club refereed the games, supported by staff at Park Mains who ran the lines.

At the end of the tournament, each school was presented with a certificate thanking them for their participation.

Park Mains High School Headteacher, Michael Dewar, said: "The memorial rugby tournament paid tribute to Park Mains pupil Owen MacDonald, who sadly passed away on Sunday 30 April.

"His school friends wanted to do something that would pay tribute to Owen and this friendly rugby tournament before the school term ends is a fitting way to involve pupils across the area."

More than £11,000 has been raised by pupils and the local community to pay tribute to Owen MacDonald on fundraising website Justgiving.
