Renfrewshire Council

Maria Alam

Name: Maria Alam Maria Alam
Age: 15
MSYP for: Renfrewshire North and West

Why did you put yourself forward as a candidate?
I put myself forward because I want to get the views of the young people in my area heard and represented nationally. I want to be known as a person that will listen to young people's ideas and will get them heard.

What excites you about the Scottish Youth Parliament?
I am excited to meet new people and go the Scottish Youth Parliament meetings three times a year, I am looking forward to getting young people to talk to me about their ideas about their society.

What are your main aims for your two year term?
My focus will be looking to improve education for the youth by getting ideas of how it should be improved by the young people themselves. I will also be looking at health as I want to stop drinking and smoking within the youth due to its recent increase. I don't think children should be doing such activities.

What are your plans for the future?
In the future I would like to work with children, I'm hoping to get a job as a primary teacher where I can implement my ideas for education and I would also like to have a part time job within the youth services to help the troubled youth.
