Best Bar None

Publicans reminded 'last orders please' on Best Bar None nominations

Time is running out for licensed premises to apply to become recognised as one of Renfrewshire's best-run bars.

The deadline for this year's staging of the Best Bar None Renfrewshire awards is Friday 16 September.

Best Bar None Renfrewshire - now in its sixth year - is a scheme designed to raise standards and make sure people can enjoy a night out in venues which are clean and safe.

The awards also encourage pubs, clubs and bars to be good neighbours and work with Police Scotland and Renfrewshire Council to prevent crime and disorder.

Best Bar None asks publicans to submit an application for assessment in one of seven categories, depending what type of businesses they have.

Trained, impartial assessors visit each of the premises which apply and score the applications on:

  • Prevention of crime and disorder
  • Securing public safety
  • Prevention of public nuisance
  • Protecting and improving public health
  • Protection of children from harm.

A panel of judges assesses the applications and confirms that all applicants have met the required standard.

Applicants are awarded either a Gold, Silver or Bronze award and an overall winner is selected in each category.

Overall winners have the chance to go forward to compete at the end of the year for the national Best Bar None Awards.

A total of 13 venues across Renfrewshire gained Best Bar None accreditation in 2015 - with six venues going through to the national finals, one of them making it into two categories.

Councillor Eddie Devine, Convener of Renfrewshire Council's Environment Policy Board, said: "Best Bar None Renfrewshire recognises the hard work of local publicans in making sure that our leisure and entertainment scene is vibrant, safe and attractive.

"The licensed trade has its own contribution to making Renfrewshire a welcoming place to visit or live in and it also provides valuable jobs opportunities, which in turn, help our local economy.

"I would urge publicans to get on board with Best Bar None Renfrewshire and apply for an Award as soon as possible."
