Refurbished gym at Newmains Primary School

Refurbished gym takes centre stage

Councillor Jacqueline Henry, Convener of Renfrewshire Council's Education Policy Board, has visited the recently refurbished gym at Newmains Primary.

A programme of repair and refurbishment at the gym was carried out involving the council's Building Services team and a specialist waterproofing contractor following sustained drainage problems.

After a new concrete floor was laid, a refurbishment programme was carried out including the installation of new windows and doors, and a general redecoration of the entrance area, corridor and gym.

Councillor Henry said: "It was very encouraging to see the transformation of the whole area in and around the gym hall.

"I would like to thanks the school community for their patience while the problem was resolved.

"Clearly the refurbishment of the gym hall has been well received and I was able to see preparations for the gym hosting one of the highlights of the school year - the pupil valedictorian speech."

Carol Cooke, head teacher of Newmains Primary, said: "We are delighted to have our school gym back up and running and the children are pleased they can use it for many different things.

"The wider community are also making use of the building as well. So we want to thank the council staff who did such a great job with all the work."
