No Substitute for Life

Sunday 26 June 2016

The annual No Substitute for Life tournament was held in Ferguslie for its fifth year and brings the community together to raise awareness of the issue among young men and women.

Hundreds of footballers and supporters have turned out each year and similar numbers attended again when the competition takes place.

The 7-a-side tournament was held in Ferguslie Park Sports Centre and, for the 3rd year in a row, Lucy's Angels took home the trophy- only after a nail biting penalty shoot out with runners up Adam's United.

Background
The event was first created by local Ferguslie resident Paul Cardona who wished to raise awareness of the issue after he lost close friends to suicide.

A working group was created to bring the event to life and the success of the event led to the group winning Renfrewshire's Chamber of Commerce Community Champion Award in 2013.

It has become a popular event with the local community in Renfrewshire and brings forward the issue of suicide into the minds of people- young and old.
