Sma' Shot Day (1 July)

Date: Saturday 1 July

One of the oldest workers' festivals in the world, this is a unique celebration of the victory of the weavers over the mill owners.

Led by the beat of the Charleston Drum, a colourful lunchtime parade through town kicks off an afternoon of festivities culminating in the traditional 'burning of the Cork' - a fiery finale to a spectacular day!

And the Sma' (or small) Shot? A cotton thread which bound all the colourful weft threads into the warps of the world-famous Paisley Pattern shawls.

Join us on the day to find out why this little piece of thread meant so much...
