City Deal - Community Benefits

Renfrewshire's people are at the core of the City Deal investments.

The long term success of our economy will be driven by the skills, work and local loyalty of our residents and all our communities will benefit from the opportunities that City Deal will create.

While Renfrewshire will benefit from the new jobs and infrastructure that the City Deal will bring, it is likely that works of this scale will also affect local communities during their construction.

We are committed to keeping people fully informed about the City Deal projects' plans and progress and to consulting with local people and businesses get the most out of the investment. We will keep residents and businesses informed so that they know what is happening, when it is happening, how it will affect them and how we plan to minimise any disruption.

As the projects progress, a number of events will be held to provide information and opportunities for public engagement. Advance notification of these events will be published on our website (www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/citydeal) as well as a number of other media channels, including; adverts in local newspapers, shops and businesses, and via the Council Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Community benefits

We want to ensure that the money spent with suppliers delivering the City Deal projects not only delivers infrastructure that encourages economic growth but that it also delivers wider benefits to the community through a range of initiatives which may include the following:

  • targeted training and employment opportunities
  • educational support
  • supply chain development
  • community and environmental project support
  • equality & diversity programmes within industries
  • other initiatives which assist support businesses, the third sector and the voluntary sector.

A City Deal Community Benefits Strategy [480KB] has been developed to help suppliers delivering City Deal contracts embrace the ethos of the City Deal and deliver the range of Community Benefits relevant to the contracts. The  Community Benefits Strategy aims to build on existing good practice across the eight local authorities to deliver community benefits, and ensures a consistent and collaborative approach is adopted, maximising the opportunities and benefits delivered to the community.

Suggestions of community projects that could be supported by City Deal suppliers are welcomed. Please send any suggestions to citydeal@renfrewshire.gov.uk.
