Community meals

What community meals are, who can get them, how to refer someone to the community meals service, contact details for the Adult Services Referral Team.

What the community meals service is

Community meals provides hot and cold meals or snacks at lunch time to people who have difficulty preparing food.

We aim to support you to maintain your independence within the community by providing hot and cold nutritious meals delivered to your door.

The Community Meals Service is also a welfare check and our drivers will report any concerns about the person getting the meal.

Who can get community meals

You can get community meals if you're unable to heat pre-prepared meals due to illness, frailty or disability.

You could:

  • have debilitating medical problems
  • be suffering from considerable mobility issues
  • experience confusion due to dementia, Alzheimer's or other similar conditions
  • have physical disabilities
  • about to be discharged from hospital and requiring short term help to maintain their nutritional wellbeing.

About the meals

Hot or cold meals are available for delivery twice a day between 11.45am to 1.45pm and 3.45pm to 6.15pm.

You can choose whether you get your hot meal at lunch or tea time.

The meals are available 7 days a week including Bank Holidays and Christmas.

We can cater for special dieting needs such as:

  • soft diet
  • gluten free
  • allergies
  • diabetes
  • vegetarian
  • pureed

Cost of the meals

Each meals costs £3.17 and includes delivery.

A bill will be issued every 4 weeks.

How to get the meals

You'll need to be referred to the service and an assessment of need is required.

All new referrals must to go through the Single Point of Access by the Adult Services Referral Team (ASeRT).

Cancelling your meals

Cancelling for a short period of time

If you're not at home or wish to cancel your meal, you need to give at least 24 hours notice by phoning 0141 618 2866.

If you do not contact us to cancel the meal, you may be charged for the meal.

If the Community Meals driver delivers your meal and you're not at home, we're unable to leave your meal. You'll still need to pay for the meal.

Cancelling all your meals

If you no longer want to get community meals please tell your:

  • social worker
  • adult service coordinator
  • service coordinator
  • community meals staff
  • phone us on 0141 618 2866.

Your meal service will be cancelled if you are admitted to hospital and your stay in hospital is for more than 4 weeks.
